For the remaining three games, Bengal pacer Akash Deep received his first Test call-up, replacing Avesh Khan in the team.

On Saturday, the BCCI revealed the Indian team for the final three Test matches against England. Due to having to postpone the announcement, the selection committee had to wait a few days to receive KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja’s fitness clearance. The two’s availability is still conditioned by their physical condition.

The 27-year-old recently claimed 13 wickets while playing for India ‘A’ against the England Lions in unofficial Test matches, impressing the men who matter enough to be selected for the starting squad.

The Bengal pacer, who was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2022 for INR 20 Lakh, is an IPL player for the team. He has taken six wickets in his seven IPL games to date. The India call-up will undoubtedly give the 27-year-old more confidence heading into the lucrative league’s next season, since he is yet to show his mettle in the IPL.

India is yearning for skills like those that Akash Deep possesses.

Although Akash Deep bowls with a rapid arm twist that causes the ball to skid through and push the batter off the deck, one may initially consider him to be a medium pacer.

A batter has to spend some time to get used to confronting him because Akash is trickier than a hitter thinks.

Similar to Mukesh Kumar, Akash possesses a strong seaming ability and can cause problems for the batters by delivering his stock inwards. The management decided that, in the next games in the series, Akash Deep would be the like-to-like substitute for Mukesh because the latter was not performing up to par.
